Director of Engineering - OEM  Germantown, MD
Our client is looking for a Director of Engineering to join their OEM Engineering and Design team. You will manage the engineering and mechanical design team for HVAC / Cooling / Mechanical Equipment that supports the Data Center Industry. The ideal candidate will have past experience designing and managing commercial HVAC mechanical OEM Equipment specifically for cooling mission critical data center computer rooms. The Director supervises the planning, coordination and direction of all activities related to the operational, budgetary, staffing, project management, quality assurance, and training aspects of the Engineering Department. 

Responsibilities:
  • Create and implement a business plan that will ensure success for the Engineering Department
  • Establish and direct Engineering operating budget and monitor actual expenditures to what is on the budget
  • Manage and develop a team of electrical and mechanical engineering personnel who’s focus will be in Electrical, Mechanical and Electromechanical products and systems on new and existing industrial / commercial grade OEM Equipment
  • Assign / Plan / Schedule Engineering Team on specific phases for projects such as order configuration, product design, value engineering, research and development, and product testing
  • Organize engineering personnel responsibilities according to project requirements
  • Resolve any engineering design and testing issues
  • Supervise quality standards and measurement techniques 
  • Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications 
  • Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases
  • Manage and Supervise the training program development to develop the skills of engineering personnel
  • Generate reports and provides necessary communications with other departmental functions regarding engineering responsibilities
  • Represent Design Engineering in Executive meetings in the US as well as other global locations as necessary
  • Occasional field support for equipment will be needed at Customer location for air-conditioning equipment installations

Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Engineering or related field
  • 7-10+ years of experience in engineering design for an OEM
  • 3-5+ years in management or engineering project management
  • Experience supervising CAD drafting / Solidworks / AutoCAD / Zuken E3
  • SAP a plus
  • EIT / PE a Huge Plus
  • Effective Communicator – emails, phone and face to face.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook and MS Project
  • Relevant Training / Certifications such as PMP - Project Management Process, ISO, PMBOK, etc
  • Experience in LEAN manufacturing and corporate initiatives / methods
